- On July 7 Governor Mills signed into law “An Act to Support Extraction of Common Minerals by Amending the Maine Metallic Mineral Mining Act.”
- Now very familiar with the large, undeniable dangers of metal mining and processing, CARMA, State Representative Bill Pluecker, and State Senator Pinney Beebe-Center all opposed this legislation. You can read Nickie Sekera’s analysis in the Portland Press Herald, published prior to the bill’s passage. Nickie is founder of Community Water Justice and serves as one of CARMA’s experts.
- Going forward, CARMA will monitor the development of state regulations that will be promulgated under this amendment to the Maine Metallic Mineral Mining Act, giving commentary as warranted.
